The India Cements Limited had its beginnings in a humble cement factory, at a remote hamlet called Talaiyuthuin Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu in 1946, by Shri S N SankaralingaIyer and Sri T S Narayanaswami. Three years later, it established its first plant at Sankarnagar. This pioneering enterprise of free India was set up as a Public Limited Company; the public issue was oversubscribed and the first annual report was published soon after. The two founders were visionaries who dreamt of an industrial and prosperous India, and worked hard to realize those dreams. They were successful in developing enduring relationships and visualizing the future. Sri T S Narayanaswami was a banker cum industrialist who ensured that this project sailed through all hurdles to emerge as a viable and marketable plan. This visionary played a pivotal role in pushing the industrialization agenda in post-Independence India. To celebrate his Birth Centenary, the Indian Postal Department released a Commemorative Postage Stamp in his honor on November 11, 2012.
